In response for information with concerns for safety and room, I am posting these photos of said information.
We felt completely safe while traveling the ferries, it is a wonderful experience! Would do it again in a heartbeat. Here are a couple of web sites with information about the Kennicott ferry/ship, you can google lots more:

Never been on an Alaskan State Ferry, but had the pleasure at 15 to make my first trip "up North" on the old Alaska Steamship Lines "Denali" ...
