Has anyone used the Nikkor 8-200 mm 3.5-5.6 G ED DX lens on a Nikon full frame, like a Nikon D610? If so, how did it work for you?

Most Nikon FX cameras can sense when a DX lens is put on the camera and make the necessary adjustments. Look in your manual's index under DX and that will lead you to the appropriate page.

It works fine, the image circle is smaller than the full sensor (expected) and larger than the DX crop - if I remember correctly this is the case especially at the shorter focal lengths. Performance at 200 is ok, but not as good as <135mm. But this is the case regardless of which sensor you use it with.

Excellent point. You can configure the Nikon to automatically sense the DX lens and crop the picture. Results: smaller file size, camera does work for you. You can also have the camera treat the lens as a full-frame FX lens. You will then get a vignetted photo, which you could then crop in post-processing. Results: larger file size and more coverage before vignetting becomes objectionable.

I use it a lot. It works well. It is sensed by the camera and it becomes a DX camera. It doubles the number of shots you may take on your card. It also reduces the size of the photo files.
