Kevin, you didn't happen to take note on what that is that is coating her hair braids. Looks like mud or clay, but it could also be a hoist of other things. Bill

And congratulations, they should have been first place.

Hi Bill, The hair braids are mud, ocka (which is also use all over their body to protect them from the sun) & goats hair, their pillow is wooden to keep braids in good condition. It all sounds crazy but thats the way it is. They are amazing people …Kevin

Thank you Kevin, yes I found when you travel abroad, you will find the customs and availability to what we are used to be quite different. I feel that is what makes it so special to us. Seeing and learning how other people live and the environment they live in as compared to are own comfortable surrounding. You will often hear, I have nothing to photograph around here, but a bus full of tourist will get off the bus in awe. LOL..

After meeting the remote Himba Tribe many things stay in my mind, they are very happy people, live a extremely simple life, there were only woman & children in the village all men where out with there goats the Namibian government promisted schooling for all remote tribes so they sent a tent out to be used as a school room but no teacher, there mud huts had no windows or lighting it just goes on & on….

I cannot imagine what image took first place,Kevin. these are so remarkable and well done in every way. Perhaps the judges did not want you to walk away with the trifecta!!

Carly, I think you are right with your thinking about the trifecta, the judges have a few good long time mates in the club who the members look up to as being the masters of photography. My recent joining of the club has upset the balance. Recently I had a notice from the president of the club to say the judges had made a mistake when adding the score sheets & I didn't come first but came in 2nd which at the time thought was very strange but accepted it . I am joining a much bigger club soon where the competition will be more competitive so lets wait & see.…Kevin

Carly, I think you are right with your thinking ab... (show quote)

Our club uses "outside" judges who meet judging qualifications--no club members. Also, names are on the back of images, not for the judges to be made aware. But perhaps a larger club will give better competition. :-)
