Some of our local fire departments do use drones for overhead monitoring of the fire, etc., but that is THEIR drone that THEY are controlling. Big difference between that and some yahoo that bought one at Best Buy and thinks he’s going to get some cool video with it.

My local fire department, Ventura County FD (CA) told me that they do use drones from time to time. I haven’t heard whether or not Los Angeles City or County departments do, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they do,

"Four foot wingspan" sound more like an RC plane than a drone.

Or a military-type drone but that's a good point. Certainly no commercially available (to the public) quad copter you can get at Best Buy.
