My Father was stationed at March AFB when General Olds was the CG. I heard he was tough, but fair. Even though March AFB has been converted to a Reserve Base, the golf course remains named after him.
Somehow I wouldn't expect anything else from him. I hope you had the chance to cross paths with him. At least on a golf course you're still shooting!!
Olds is an American Hero!!

I've seen a reenactment of Operation Bolo and it was totally awesome.

As a pilot and prior military I would have gladly returned your salute!
I appreciate his and your service but he had no business flying that low over my boat. He earned his salute.

It's what you call hot dogging. Richard Bong was reprimanded for doing the same type of thing in San Francisco. As a result he was not sent with his group to Europe, and ended up being sent to the Pacific Theatre instead, where he became the United States' leading fighter ace of WWII and a MOA recipient, shooting down 40 Japanese aircraft.

I think that you said it all my friend!!

and you did a great job. Now, get one of the A/C flying towards us or picture of the flames coming out the rear end. Thanks for your service.

No argument here! There are so many of them. I also am a pilot but not military. I get to go to Oshkosh every year for work (yes, I actually get paid to go...) and have met many of the greats over the years. Yeager, Anderson, Gabreski, Obrien, Boots Bless and Hoots Gibson. They are all very special people and we all owe them a great deal of gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
Bud Anderson and Frances Gabreski were the nicest two I ever met. Very humble, polite and even entertaining.
