One of the things that I find fascinating about birds -- other than the fact that they can fly, and I can't -- is the fact that juvenile birds may look very little like the adults of the same species. Juvenile red tailed hawks do not even have red, or even orange, tails.

Thanks, all! If it were not for that, one bird, I would not have had to bring my camera on my hike. I saw no other wildlife, save for ground squirrels. Oh, and one rabbit, which was too quick.

Thanks. Although I can't control the light in the sky, I do have a measure of control, in post processing. I like to use subtle (well, they're subtle, to me) gradient filters to highlight the bird's path. I'd prefer some billowy clouds, up there, but that ain't happening, in this part of the country, at this time.
