Notice the loading lanes at the top of the picture. The vehicles are loaded according as to where they will disembark. The RV's were backed into the ship. It will hold 120 cars. The ferries travel the 'real' inside passage! We got a room with a picture window, but spent most of our time on the decks. I will be posting pictures of the inside passage and of our 2014 trip.

My wife and I actually camped on the rear deck of one of those ferries from Haines Alaska to Prince Rupert in '76. We've travelled both the Alaskan and the BC Ferry systems more times than I care to remember. The Alaskan service seems like rank amateurs in comparison when it comes to loading and unloading.

I posted these to help Familiarize future travelers. It is a wonderful experience. We spent, by far, most of our time in the viewing areas and on the outside deck!!! Did not need the window...

The BC Ferry service changed their schedule last year, really put a kink in my planning. Had to cancel plans and reservations for all of Victoria Island, and three of four nights in Ketchikan. But it allowed me to include 5 nights in Wrangell. Turned out to be our favorite place in Alaska!
Did not use the BC Ferries at all, due to their schedule change.

I may try to take the ferry cruise. Great photos! Two questions. Do the cabins have their own bathrooms? Secondly, are there lifeboats on these ships?

Yes, we had our own, private shower/restroom. And yes, there are lifeboats on ALL ships U.S. flagged ships! Will post photos with a life boat included shortly and maybe of the 'facilities'.

Interesting shots. Next time give us an idea what the entire ferry looks like from land.

I have already posted one of the ferries, a few months ago. Do a search for DougS in UHH, and look at my topic "Alaska Ferry, Haines". I will post another one soon.
