Nikon D7100 wired remote ?

I got a motion/lightning trigger for my birthday back in february. I tested it for motion soon after and it worked fine. Tonight we are getting lightning so I thought I'd test that function, no joy. Can't even get the motion function to work! batteries are working. Am I forgetting to make some setting on the camera? Any ideas?

is camera set for remote shutter trigger?

It's a wired remote, not the wireless. But I tried setting it to use the ML-L3 setting. didn't work.

Maybe its your focus settings...you shouldn't have to change anything with a wired release.

If you are set to Focus Priority, and there is nothing to focus on, it won't take a picture.
Try manual focus and release priority.
I would guess that you would set the lens for infinity?

I had it set to manual focus.
