What do you want to back up, the catalog or your photos?

If it is the Catalog, go to Edit/Catalog Settings. I use the "Every Time Lightroom Exits" option. Then when you exit, LR will open a dialog box that permits you to tell it the folder you want to back up the Catalog to. If your USB (flash drive, I assume) is mounted at that time, you should be able to select it.
However, I strongly recommend that you back up the Catalog somewhere on your hard drive in addition to on any removable drive.

You should be able to easily drag your selected photos onto the icon of the USB drive. Make sure they are in jpeg format so you can be sure the other person will be able to see them.

In this case, from the library module, you simply export the desired photos to the USB drive or any place you wish.

Bad advice.

Export the photos you want to the USB drive. Only then will you get the changes you made to them.
