If the link above doesn't work, please go to zdnet.com and look up the article. We all depend on solid state memory to record and store our images. There have been numerous discussions about reliability. Unfortunately, this article doesn't put many of our qualms to rest but at least those who use SSDs can do so with their eyes a bit wider open.
It's too bad they don't break out the various brands the failures occur in.
When you think about it, there are probably some (many) that are happily working along without a glitch.
I, and probably not many here, will never amass the number of drives any of these "power users" would acquire.
So my focus would remain with the few I do have.
Anything can and will eventually fail. Personally, in computing since 1989, I can recall one
(1) hard drive failure. And even at that it was a slow death. I believe the drive was a Western Digital.
It kept recovering and recovering over a period of weeks until it convinced me the drive was failing. More than enough warning to back up and move files.
Also, the article doesn't delve into the specifics. FB users often dump a variety of crap and corruption on it's pages.
I would be more grooming my storage to photographs, and less to overall everything back-ups.
Kind of like a really big SD card for my camera, and not a "catch all" drive for a back up program.
Ca-Ca occurs, as a dead friend use to say.
Back ups to back ups should give one 2-3 places to calm a panic attack. (Computer, Back up 1, and Back up 2)
But then, I have bigger fish to fry than whether or not I might loose some pictures.
