I found an older sigma 24 - 70 1:3.5 - 5.6 zoom lens in my drawers. Was wondering how to find out if it goes on a canon, nikon mount ect?
also, is it just a crap lens? it is AF and says SAF on it and asherical.

I'm not familiar with Sigmas, but you could try to Google the full lens model to get more information on it. Likewise, if you can find a model number, you may be able to find out more.

Offhand, it sounds like consumer-level lens with the 3.5-5.6 variable aperture.

Best way to know what mount you have, is to take it to a local camera store. Google Sigma 24-70 zoom f/3.5 lens for photographer opinions and value of lens: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=Sigma+24-70+zoom&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&lr=&cr=&as_qdr=all&as_sitesearch=&as_occt=any&safe=images&tbs=&as_filetype=&as_rights=#hl=en&lr=&as_qdr=all&q=Sigma+24-70+zoom+%22f%2F3.5%22&oq=Sigma+24-70+zoom+%22f%2F3.5%22&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_l=serp.3...54591l62671l0l63016l8l8l0l0l0l0l99l699l8l8l0.frgbld.&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&fp=f4e570b42f93ac67&biw=1280&bih=576

Unless you recognize the contact pattern of the body you use it is impossible to tell on the older Sigma lenses exactly what mount they are. Compare the mount with lenses you know what they fit, thats the best way.
Someone once posted a lens mount pictorial comparison here on UHH that was very good, but I failed to save it. Maybe someone else did and can repost it for you.

Rick's site shows mounts for older manual focus lenses, not AF models.

You could try going to Amazon and look for lens adapters. Fotodiox makes adapters for most Digital Cameras. I had an old Olympus mount lens, with a OM-EOS adapter the lens fit fine on my Canon Rebel. Fotodiox also makes an adapter for Older Pentax PK lens to Canon. The lens works fine, Of cource it's Manual focus.

If the mount cap says Canon and it fits then I would venture to guess it is a Canon Eos mount. Seems logical to me.

yes, i figured but since i really dont know where it came from and it is missing the front cover someone may have just used that . it may not have been original to the lens.
