Frustration...

After the storm we had last night, we have actually had sunshine most of today, with just a few scattered clouds around. I thought it was worth a chance to get some shots of the Venus/Jupiter pairing. Got myself set up just it time for this massive bank of clouds to start moving in. I got this shot of the moon through the leading edge of the cloud, but just to add insult to injury, there was a big 'finger' of cloud actually reached out to cover my target area... Gr...
I caught a glimpse of Venus as I was setting up, but never even saw Jupiter!

Boy, if ever there was a face in the clouds!
I know this frustration well. I uncovered my setup, ran it through its paces only to have the wife mention there is a thunderstorm warning with 100% chance of rain in 15min. FML so I am racing to cover everthing only to see the storm miss us by just a few miles to the South.
Not much can be said but to chuckle,
Matthew

Yeah, I know... This has been a strange year for weather, though. Of course, in prior years I haven't been 'looking' for clear skies, but I can't remember it being this cloudy so constantly.
It's nice and clear this morning, so who knows, this evening might give me a better chance. From what I read, though, the 20th was the closest pass, and now they will be pulling away from each other, day by day. Last night I didn't even see Jupiter, as the clouds were moving in before the sky darkened.
I should be getting my SX50 back this week - it went on a trip to Alaska with friends - so that would give me a lot more 'reach'.

The moon will continue to pull away but Venus and Jupiter will continue to draw closer. June 30th and July 1st they will be less than 1 degree apart. That's going to be a high mag night and try to shot without being washed out by that bright little girl Venus.
Weather permitting.. lol

Yeah, I just posted that to another thread. I must have mis-read it. So, it seems I am still in with a chance, if we can just get some decent skies!

Not yet.
But it is next week now.
Speaking of frustrations...
The weather will be, what the weather will be.
Nothing there I can change.
All we can hope for is high pressure areas that hold the clouds away like a dome.
But those Herold temperatures in the 100's here. (Shimmering heat waves far into the nights.)
One night while observing I lost sight of my target. Bewildered, I finally stopped trying to re-find it, and looked up.
Well what do you know, it wasn't scope nor aim, but a front of weather blowing in.
End of an otherwise interesting evening of peering down to look up.... :?
Shaking my head, I started making my 4 trip break down to pack the equipment back indoors.
Rats! Foiled again!

Sorry to hear your frustrations with the clouds.
But they are nice shots.
