Guess whose name was on the lenses for the first Canons?
Although perhaps a bit dated-looking, I kind of like the original logo with its spiritual display of Buddhist mysticism. Today, the multitude of arms in the logo could represent the abundance of features modern Canon cameras come with!
That's true, Nikon did develop the first lens for Canon, but they didn't make cameras, just lenses, and those were designed by a German named Heinrich Acht. The Canon cameras were built after the designer, Goro Yoshida, disassembled a Leica Model II to see how it worked.

Kwanon in Japanese folk law was the Goddess of mercy So to have that as a name was considered good luck, I only found this out while I was in Japan
Well, Kwan Yin is the name of the Chinese (mercy goddess) temple in both Honolulu, Hawaii & the "Rose Garden" at Nakon Pratom in Thailand-------but "mate-dtha" is the Thai word for mercy & there are some hospitals & clinics of that name in Thailand.
