I took this photo of a fallen tree in the woods behind us. I'm loading color and black-and-white versions. Which do you think works better? Or does it make any difference?

i like the b/w version better. by eliminating the color it forces the emphasis on to the shapes form and texture of the stump, and away from the greens of the moss.

Thanks for the comment. I have my own opinion, but I'll save it for a little later, given some other folks a chance to express themselves.

I like the color one most. To me color seems to bring out the details even more.

I like the color. It doesn't look like the moss takes away from the total shot. And the tree is already in black and white. And the ground looks a lot better in the colored one.

I like the B&W but I think the leaf litter really competes with the stump and limbs. Perhaps some digital D&B would help the subject stand out.

Pretty even split so far. Interesting!

I am going to throw in with the color version. The stump seems to stand out more with the color, making the stump stand out from the background. With the color, you can almost "smell" the old stump.

In the black & white, the images seems to be a bit flat, with the stump "falling" back into the background.

I like the colored one better. Nature has beautiful colors and most of the time they should be shown. The black and white picture looks more cluttered to me because the stump and the forest floor seem to kind of blend together if that makes sense.

I like the color best but. In both the big black spot of the stump, dead center, is what I first see in both. Then have to look to see the rest of the picture. Not that I should be the one to judge others photos. Mike

out of these 2 photos the color does it more justice ... however ... if you upped the saturation and contrast before turning it black and white .. that would be a much more interesting photo

I may fool around some more with the B/W version. Thanks for the suggestion.
