Fort Ancient archeological park is located in Oregonia, Ohio. It is a collection of Native American earthworks believed to have been constructed by the Hopewell Indians. There was a recent 25 year celebration of Native American culture at the park with dances and processions representative of this culture. Many of the participants claimed Native American heritage. Below is a few photos of some of the people in clothing and dance representative of their tribes.
Fancy shawls
Coyote pelts as part of ceremonial garb
Dancing feet
Round feathered headdress
Good pictures.
Interesting, but all the costumes etc. are plains tribe as interpreted by Hollywood or done up for the tourists. Definitely not Hopewell/Fort Ancient or any of the other Mound Builder cultures.
I met a guy once who was Cherokee and he had a Sioux(Lakota) war bonnet because he said that was what everyone expected him to have.
A student teacher of mine was Apache and took part in the pow wow dance contests, her two costumes were a plains style and one that she said was more Navaho than Apache since it got more points from the judges at the dance contests. Most of her jewelry was Pueblo and Navaho styles.

Thank you Robert. I am really not sure what I was photographing. This was my first time at such an outing. When I got home I googled the event and found a protest from a Shawnee tribe stating that this was not authentic, the dances were wrong, the garb was wrong, etc. however some of the people I spoke with said they had verifiable Native American Indian heritage (mostly Cherokee). I am sure the truth lays somewhere in between. I can say that many of the dancers worked hard on a hot afternoon and I appreciated their efforts.

Ignorance of of cultures is an American trait, even within the various cultures in America. Sad isn't it? the guy with the badger on his head is about as Indian as the woman in Spokane is Black. What a time we live in.
For the OP:
oh yeah, nearly forgot. Those are some well done pics! Kudos
Great shots of the colorful regalia!
