Just playin'

Just making sure that my plugins had transferred to the new release of PS - don't like that we have to do that, but...
Anyway, this was one of my recent posts, with topaz star effects added.

Takes it more to an artistic endeavor than a straight photo, and isn't something I would normally do, but it's a fun image.

Yep.
But artistic license always leaves me wanting for something more realistic.
But that's just me. I prefer to "get it right in the camera", or try and get a picture that is as close as I can to what my tired old eyes see.
But every bodies eyes are a little different, and see things a little different.
Getting Saturn up in the scope was exciting to me, but younger eyes were very thrilled at the sight. It made me wonder what waiting so long to get serious was costing me in Heavenly visions.

I agree, and normally try to get things looking 'right'. This was just a play. The plugin lets you specify how many points to the star, how big they are, all kinds of things, so I could have gone *way* out there.

About the only time I really use it is for candlelit scenes, and closeups of 'the ring' at a wedding - gives it that tv commercial 'zing'!

Do ever shoot with a star filter? I have an eight point that I like.

I used to have one on my film camera, back in the dim and distant past. Somehow, it only affected specular highlights, and didn't make any difference to the rest of the scene. I ended up just leaving it on the lens in place of my usual UV filter. Like with most things, though, this plugin gives so much more control...

Topaz Star Effects plugin? Adobe Elements?
I'll have to look for that.

Oh, I found it. http://www.topazlabs.com/stareffects

Yes, as long as it isn't over-used... I like the way it brings out the colour of the stars, which mostly don't show colour in the plain photo.

I got it from topaz during one of their sales, and only paid a few bucks for it, as I recall. It's supposed to integrate into LR as well as PS, but I never managed to figure out just how...
