Maritime photography in Maine.

Since I was a young man my father showed me a love for the seas. I grew up in a small community pretty close to the ocean and as I grew up I developed a love and an appreciation for anything that had something to do with our oceans. Fishing and maritime photography have been my hobbies.
I have been several times to Maine, a paradise for the maritime photographer. I have not seen all that needs to be seen in that beautiful state but perhaps I will have the chance to see more some day.
I captured these images some time ago with my now gone D70s and the old 24-85 f3.5-4.5 lens.
The first shot was made while I was looking for a small lighthouse in that area. The interesting clouds caught my eye and I thought they would make for a beautiful composition with the lobster boat in the foreground and the houses including a church in the background for balance.
In the second shot the boats with the lobster traps in the background tell the story. With the ocean and boats near by the story is more evident.
The last shot was made in late morning light. This is the Bass Harbour Lighthouse in Acadia National Park. To my surprise it was not a big lighthouse as you can see but a very popular one among photographers. To photograph it I had to walk on my way down for a better spot through the reefs, a difficult (for me) and dangerous situation. If I had stayed in Acadia, which I could not do, I would have photographed the lighthouse at different times during the day but especially at dusk and dawn. I bet the results would have been different.
If you enjoy maritime photography Maine is a paradise and if you go you owe it to yourself to try the lobster roll which is so popular that you can find them anywhere.
I am looking forward to my next visit and I hope you will enjoy browsing through these shots.
I used a Manfrotto tripod with a Linhof ballhead and shutter cable release for all shots and Topaz Adjust 5 with modified presets for all of them during editing.

Thank you, thank you for your wonderful endorsement of my home state. And for your very lovely images! I particularly like the composition of #2.

One typo, though: it should be "lobstah" rolls :) :-P

Very nice thematic grouping. I like the moodiness with the lobster boat.

Linda, indeed Maine is a beautiful state and for those like me who enjoy maritime photography it is a paradise. I am looking forward to come back for more photography and some of those "lobstah" rolls.
Thank you all for your comments.

Very nice set of pictures that show off the rugged coast of Maine and its people.

You are definitely correct about the Bass Harbor Light being a popular shot; you see them often in print shops along the coast, but as an ex-New Englander, I think yours is one of the best. The light didn't have to be built tall, being on the bluff gave it the additional height to be seen well out to sea.

Thank you. The picture of the Bass Harbor headlight was shot at near midday, not the type of light photographers favor but unfortunately it happened during a weekend and the area was crowded in early October. and to make it worse there was a convention going on. It would have been ideal to stay at a hotel and then try to photograph the lighthouse early or late in the day under more pleasant lighting conditions. Hopefully that will happen at another time.
