I havent had much luck tracking down jumpers. I just dont have the knack of seeing them and when I do my approach usually scares them off before I get a decent shot. This year my luck has changed a little as I am spotting them more often and with more sightings comes the opportunity to practice photographing them. I was shooting Eastern Lubber nymphs of Sunday when I noticed a little jumper on my diffuser. I took the Olympus EM-1 out of my bag to exercise advantage my good fortune. As the lens approached the subject I saw the dreaded blob of jumper headed towards the lens. Not of be deterred I grabbed the Canon and started firing away. I recently bought a used Sigma 150mm (non OS) so this was a good test of the lens. Extra distance it affords was somewhat offset by 72mm of extension tubes but the MWD was great enough that the spider didnt play its jumping games. If I continue seeing jumpers, Ill have to work on the diffuser to get a nice catch reflection in the eyes but for now this will suffice.
Image specs: Single Shot, handheld Canon 5D-III at ISO 200, Sigma 150mm with 72mm of Extension Tubes, approx. 2:1 mag, 1/200-sec at f/10, 600EX-RT speedlight with DIY Hardbox - compositional crops.
On the edge of the flash - Jumper on one of the Olympus TF-22 flash heads. Olympus diffuser in the background.

seems fairly obvious to me, I am going with number three
and digging the "lashes" on five
.well done
I'm always surprised by the amount of color in the small jumpers, much I can't even see without the macro lens. Nice colors, Nice captures.
Smashing photos of this cutie. I think he was just playing with you, they do seem to have a personality.

Thanks Bob I favor the third as well. The coiled cable makes a nice backdrop...

Thanks Martin. I thought of you when I was photographing this jumper. It was really tiny, no more than 4mm wide. Guessing the ones you routinely photograph are larger?

Thanks Brenda... They do like to toy with this photographer. I really enjoy their antics. Quite enjoyable to observe...
Excellent shots.

Thank you ABS. I was nice to use their penchant for jumping on the camera to my advantage, for once.
