LR 6 MISSING?

I know this topic has been discussed and I searched the site for an answer but didn't find what I was looking for.
I bought LR6 stand alone version when it came out. I used it for a while and all was fine. Today I notice I am using 5.7 and somehow I ended up back with older version. Not sure why Adobe makes that possible. In any case I searched everywhere in LR menus and didn't find anything.
Can someone tell me how I reopen LR in LR6 instead of LR5.7.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Please don't tell me to google it....lol

If your problem is that when you click the icon in the dock you launch LR5.7 the solution is simple. Drag the LR icon out of the dock and watch it go Poof. Look in your application folder and find LR6 and drag IT to the dock.

Once you make sure LR6 is working, and all your catalogs are upgraded you can delete LR5 but I didn't, I just left it there. It is not bothering me and I no longer launch it by accident.

Hey thanks I see both versions now but why doesn't abode make them available in LR by giving us a choice to open with whatever version. And I have no idea how it went back to 5.7, maybe because I never took 5.7 off the dock and kept reopening it. In any case thank YOU!

Yes, it isn't really Adobe this time (but they do enough bad stuff to keep us aggravated). Stuff will stay in the dock till you take it out, and each icon is associated with its parent program. With LR, the icons look the same no matter what version they are so until you launch it you can't tell. Same thing will happen with Photoshop if you upgrade it to a new version.

Yes, and a different icon with a simple 5.7 or 6 in the middle would be nice......they must do this intentionally really, for what benefit I'm not sure, every other company gives you a new icon ( ex, quickens). This frustration is common in the industry. Look at apple , they send us many updates that move all the icons and menu features around, everyone is complaining and you would think they would simplify things. Lol....their products have us hooked ......like women, you can't live with them and you can't live without them.....lol..thanks again

It might be helpful to let you know that the first time you run LR6, it makes a copy of your 5.7 catalog, appends a '-2' to the end of the filename and that is your LR6 catalog. Your old 5.7 catalog is preserved, as it should be, and will still work with LR 5.7, if you don't uninstall LR 5.7.

So, having said this, and you've done a lot of work on a lot of photos since installing LR 6, it may be that all those edits were done in 5.7, not 6. Might want to check your images.

Good luck.

I checked and all seems good. Thanks. I also noticed LR5.7 catalogues are named Lightroom 5 while LR6 catalogues are named Lightroom. They could have put a 6.

I just today had a related issue in my Windows 8 version. I opened Lightroom and several of my recent folders were missing. Panic began to creep as I hadn't backed up the images yet and had formatted the cards (something I try not to do but oops).

After the panic passed I realized I'd opened 5.7 instead of 6. So it didn't have the stuff I did since installing 6. I had opened Lightroom from the icon instead of from the desktop...where I usually do. I deleted the 5.7 icon and made a new one for 6 by pinning. There is peace in the valley.

I remain surprised Windows didn't upgrade the icon as it does on the desktop.
