This was shot with a canon 7D Sigma 150-600mm S w/Kenko 2x converter mounted on tripod IS turned off. Dist ~30'

full sun F/13, ISO 160, 1/80sec, 1192mm, -0.7 exp comp

Lens corr, noise, sharpening applied in LR5

This combo seems to produce an acceptable IQ under these conditions.

on DL look along the main stem. that is the focus point

Looks like it is working to me. Was the rose inside or outside?

Outside bush in the back yard. No wind this morning ;) The background is darkened as a result of the -0.7 exp comp needed to tone down the highlights.

I forgot to add that I cropped about 20% off the sides total so this is nearly full frame.

You are doing very well with the new Big Ma! This image is very good with the 2X...photography is really getting exciting with all the new gear and improvement in sensors. Hard to keep up with technology improvements and GAS under control!

Got that right! The lens took my entire years photography budget, and photography is my sole entertainment, but wouldn't
t trade it it for all the movies and meals out there.

Looks pretty good. So your lens was set to about 350mm for this test? ( assuming you added crop factor of 1.6) Or is the 7D full frame? Sorry, don't know Canon cameras, I'm a Nikon shooter.

no, about 600mm with 2x. The exif shows 1192mm. Was testing the extremes of the lens combo.

In that case I say you have a winning combo.

Is there a specific question lurking in there somewhere?

Uh yeah! How about the accuracy of my observations? That is why I posted it in Photo Analysis with all the technical info. Or perhaps the implied 'What do you think?'

No reason to roll your eyes. You didn't ask any specific question (the reason for this forum) and so I asked.

When posting in the Photo Analysis section, you must:
- Ask a specific question about fixing something particular you don't like about your photo. (Help with retaking the shot or with post-production techniques.)

or
- Post a "mini-tutorial" describing a technique you used to achieve something specific in the photo. (Teach others about framing, lighting, post-processing, etc.)

All other picture posts, such as asking for general critique of some photo, should be placed in the Photo Gallery section. So questions like "What can I do to make this photo better?" should be placed in the Photo Gallery, not in Photo Analysis.

In addition, when asking for help in the Photo Analysis section:
- You must state the settings used for taking the picture (ISO, aperture, shutter speed, any body presets). If you don't have the exact numbers, then please recall them the best you can.
- You must describe the lighting (sources, intensity, locations, weather, etc.). Again, if you don't remember the specifics do your best describing the environment.
- You must list the gear (body, lenses, etc.)
- You must ask specific questions about either improving the existing picture in post or about retaking the shot.

And since you didn't do that....I asked.
