Disney - Using Temporary Workers to Lay Off Americans

This is awful. Disneyland is laying off hundreds of American workers and replacing them with foreigners who will be here on temporary visas, brought in so they can work cheaper than Americans. I wonder how much more the executives will take home as a result of this disgusting move. They're certainly not going to lower the entry fees for the Americans who can afford to visit Disneyland

Don't blame Disney (too much), blame your elected representatives.

Yes! The purpose of this law was to let employers find tech people if Americans weren't available - which seems very unlikely. As usual, they found a way to turn it around and import foreigners to replace Americans. I've sent the NY Times link to my representatives.

The law should state

" No h-1b holder ' will be allowed to replace an existing American worker. This h-1b worker can only be hired for a new position.

At least they'd keep their existing jobs.

Right, and that is the intention of the law, but...

So, was it written loosely enough to allow a loophole, or did the Disney lawyers work overtime to find it?

Awful!

At least they let them apply for other jobs in the company.

So they get to train their replacement and then start their new career in the snack bar or wearing a Micky Mouse costume.

IBM is doing the same thing. Replacing half their orignal work force in Dubuque Iowa after getting incentives to come here. Disgusting to say the least.

I've been thinking about this, and I realize the politicians didn't come up with this law on their own. Businesses (contributors) must have said they would like a way to "legally" replace Americans with temporary foreigners. They made sure the bill was worded just right and then presented it to their elected "business partners."

This is the easier softer way - it beats the old way of proper screening of applicants and then proper training / apprenticeship.
I can remember when a local company would sponsor classes at local schools that would give students a foot in the door when they applied for work.
Cattapillar (SPL) Machines is crying their eye out for qualified welders - training is the answer.

This is why lobbying should be ILLEGAL. Corporations are not people. They do not have a moral conscience. Their only objective is to maximize shareholder returns within the law (usually). This is not necessarily bad, but they should stay out of our government.

this is true, your liberal dems, looking for illegals who will over stay their visas, and become dem voters, as so the dems will try and have a one party system, and move this country towards socialism, or Communism
