Two flies, two spiders 6/9/2015

Usual macro setup. The zipperheaded fly was in almost fully backlighted by sun, which was quite a challenge. No cropping on any of these today. On a side note, my keep rate was 10 out of 33 and these 4 were the best of the ten. That's about twice as high as usual.

I find your fly in image #2 flat (lack of contrast) and a bit hot, especially the foreground. Both can be remedied in PP.

Keeper rates are funny, on good days with nice ambient lighting, calm winds, good night sleep and hearty breakfast I can nail 75% of my shots. Throw one of the variables out of whack and it drops ~50%.. Throw two out of whack and it drops to ~25% and then it becomes an exercise of my patience...

I think my keeper rate has been going up because I'm much pickier about the shots I take.

Yes, more experience we get in the field the more we understand what works and what doesn't. Thus marginal opportunities are bypassed unless it's an unusual or rare subject/scene.
