Hello everyone. First time chatting.

I'm looking to replace my current point and shoot camera with a very good low light option camera. And maybe asking for to much but also a camera that fits in my pocket.
also I've been looking at the Canon G series because I really like the idea of a View Finder. (I miss that on my current pocket camera). I know it won't fit my pocket. Any recommendations. thanks

The Sony RX100 III is very good but it's a little over your budget. The Panasonic LF-1 is pocket size and has an EVF (electronic VF). I have one and it's pretty good, though I prefer my bigger compact, a Nikon P7800. The Nikon P7800 and Canon G16 are very good compacts, but they will not fit in most pants pockets. My P7800 fits in a jacket pocket and in the leg pockets of my cargo pants. I also have a belt case for it. The LF1 will fit in most pants pockets. The LF1 is discontinued but they are around.

Barry, welcome to the UHH. A full frame camera is the best for low light, but unfortunately they all require separate lenses, and you'll be way over your budget even if you buy used. I would suggest you do some searches (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?ci=8612&N=4288586279&mnp=350&mxp=750) and read the specifications and reviews of cameras in your price range. Then come back here with questions, naming the camera you're interested in in your title. That way you'll get the attention of those who actually know the camera. Again, welcome! :)

You can use the dpreview camera feature search,

http://www.dpreview.com/products/search/cameras#!

For low light shooting you want the following:

Electronic viewfinder (the image brightness can be boosted so you can see, and you can use the viewfinder so you don't disturb anyone else with a bright LCD)

Image stabilization.

High ISO support (at least 6400) and auto ISO (so you don't use an ISO you don't need).

RAW image format (for better bit depth and the ability to customize noise reduction).

Plug these selections in to the search, you'll get a handful of results. You can then read the reviews and figure out which you want.

The Canon G series are great because of their larger sensors. Pocket sized, not so much, unless less you are wearing cargo pants or a jacket with good sized pockets. The Sony RX series are great as well, with a slightly smaller footprint. Slightly larger would give you more options, but assuming anything larger is a show stopper, these two are what I have read do well. Other brands, such as Panasonic, Olympus and Nikon will likely have some options that may meet your needs, as well. If there is a local camera store in your area, go there and see them for yourself. It makes sense to see how well the camera will fit your hands, and I would suggest is as important as how well it fits your pocket. Good luck with your choice.

The G is the way to go. The G17 is coming: According to canon rumors the specs are as follows:

SPECIFICATIONS
PowerShot G17
24-168mm
7x Zoom
f/1.2 – f/2.0 Lens
DIGIC 6+
Larger Sensor
All Magnesium Body

Although it will not fit into a shirt pocket any jacket will hold one.

Does everything you need to do and has an optical viewfinder. Shoots raw and jpeg, manual and scene modes, etc. with a 1.2 lens it will be great for low light without flash.

I will replace my G10 as soon as it comes out.

Welcome aboard. What's your budget? I'd recommend a Canon Rebel. I've now owned three of them upgrading as I went. I've had excellent results with all of them... low light and everything else.

Barry, just google which camera performs best in low light.

You'll get quite a few links with recommendations.
