Next (hopefully not last) vacation

I am planning to vacation in Colorado the first week in August. I have a limited agenda for possibly my last trip. We are looking to get together with my cousins who are also getting on in years. My one “goal” is to shoot pictures of Long's Peak and Pike's Peak from the top of Mount Evans. My last attempt was in the early 1990s with a 35-105mm lens and not very impressive. This time I plan to use my 400mm f/5.6 on an old Manfrotto (marketed as Bogen) tripod with a fresh battery in my F3. My other stops involve my F2s and F3 with wide angle lenses and a Slik 112 tripod.

I have made a conscious decision to leave the D60 at home. It is harder to use manual and I do not like auto-focus. I will be shooting Provia 100 with which I had pretty good luck. I may do some streams etc, from down lower but I know that my heart is pumping only so much to my lungs that an extended stay over 14,000 feet is out of the question.

My tentative packing list includes the F3, two F2s, 20mm, 24mm, 35mm, 105mm, 200mm and 400mm lenses. I might slip in the 85mm f/1.8 and 43-86mm zoom if there is room. I will also pack my spotmeter, my two tripods, 10 rolls of Provia 100 and a couple rolls of ISO 800 C-41 film. I will take along preaddressed mailers and order forms for Dwayne's. That way, the first results should be back when I get home. I might throw in my HS A710 for family pictures.

Side trips on the way may include some of the churches along I-70—I have still not done any pictures in the grotto at St Fideles friary. Any ideas welcome, but the Mt Evans is set in stone barring an earth quake that flattens the Rockies or the Yellowstone super-volcano that will take care of my work for good.

I'm happy for you that you feel you have at least one more film trip in the old body.
Happy shooting.

There is also a cog railroad that goes to the top of Pikes Peak where there is a restaurant and observation deck. The Air Force Academy is open to tours, the Garden of the Gods.

I'll be turning 80 in August, and I doubt that I could manage that gear load. Don't know your age, but you and your equally aging cousins might want to look into hiring some Sherpa guides. They've been out of work since the tragic avalanche on Mt. Everest. :?

I am planning my work so I do not have more than two bodies and lenses out of the vehicle and on my person at a given time. I also have a rolling carrier if necessary.
