Well, I finally made my move to Florida. And as luck would have it, between all the confusion at my house with the tag sale going on, my D5100 with the 28-55 lens is missing. Thank goodness I had the sense to insure it. I never even used up the SD card in it. It was registered with Nikon also. I just don't know if I should replace it with the D5300 or the D5500. I do like the weight of the 5500. Any ideas anyone????

I think the price difference is about $100 or about 20% so I would pick the D5500.

Sorry you apparently had a sticky fingered customer at your sale.
Whatever you get, enjoy.

Think you answered your own question when saying you like the weight of the d5500.. In the words of Bob Dylan,"Don't think twice, it's alright."

Sorry for your loss. :( I would buy a grey market D750 for about $1250.00 Insure it with your homeowners or Renters insurance. Or a left over D7100 from a legit retailer like B&H. But that's me. =) Full frame is wonderful.

If anything goes wrong with a grey market camera, Nikon will not repair it. So your advise is terribly wrong to give anyone--shame on you

Do what you feel is best for you--after all it is you who will be using the camera and you have to have one that you are happy and comfortable with

Sorry to hear this happened to you. I tend to agree with the general consensus that you may as well go with the D5500. Still, the link below may well provide some interesting reading for your situation. Hope you get a suitable replacement soon! :-D

Welcome to Florida.
I'm so sorry you lost your camera, I would feel terrible if that happened to me. I agree with the others---go for the upgrade, especially since you like the D5500.

It seems to me that the D-5500 is the way to go since it feels good in your hand, PG. If you haven't already done so, contact Nikon that it was stolen so they can put it in their data base. Best wishes.

Welcome to Florida!!! Enjoy!!!

Buy the camera you think will be the most comfy for you and also one that you won't be wanting to go to in a couple of years. You've been given a golden opportunity!
