Well, back at it again late today as I had time. Absolute failure on the diffuser tonight. Terrible hot spot, may have it too close to the flash, it's mounted on the lens. But, the jumpers looked ok so thought I would share. I am pleased with the over all shape so I did make a little progress. Parchment Paper and Paper Towel again tomorrow if I have time.
Yeah, maybe farther back from the diffuser might do it.
I'm so jealous of your subjects and backgrounds :|
Great shots none the less
You do find such delightful subjects and capture them beautifully.

Thanks Bill. These guys are pretty easy to find, holler if you need and tips on finding them.

Image #3 is exquisite.
Thanks Douglass. I was extremely pleased when I viewed on the computer last night as well. Love these tiny little immature jumpers.

Hey Erv, Thanks for the feedback.
Wonderful. Also love #3.

Overall the diffuser is very good. Details are crisp and clean. I can see the "hot spot" you are noting in the eye reflection but none on the subjects per se. Maybe a hit on the first spider white mustache. Never troubleshot diffuser reflections in a spiders I so I might be way off. If you are going for the half-moon on the top of the eye reflection I would try loosening the cone. It's to tight to reflect from side-to-side of the eye. I would also try cocking it 10 or 15 degrees to help the reflection extend to the top of the eye.
All these photos are very well done Martin!
Martin: As a person who is always tinkering, I've been tracking your pursuit of a better diffuser. I'm wondering if this pursuit is akin to the Fountain of Youth.
With my latest, I have been able to handle shiny metal objects (new quarters, etc) to my satisfaction. For the most reflective objects, Jumper's eyes/glass, hotspots seem to be a given: I don't like them-- but just not sure if there is a compact, viable solution.
My next test will be something concave with graduated, increased diffusion toward the middle of the diffuser. I'm waiting to see what you come up with. ;-)

Thanks William. Have already loosened and raised the diffuser. Also moved it forward a bit also. Hardly any hot spot now with paper towel diffuser. None of the jumpers would sit still long enough for a decent shot, but good enough to see the results in the eyes. Also improved on the blown out white hairs.
