A Fortune Teller

I got tired of shooting the same old stuff and challenged myself to do something really different. Unfortunately, I didn't have a model so it turned into a full blown DIY project. Sorry about the ugly bits. Unexpectedly, I learned a bit about lighting and PP in the process. And I saw my fortune in the globe, "Give it up, dumbo; you ain't never gonna be a photographer." This is what happens to you when you have too much time on your hands!

H, photo ninja,
Good subject and composition.
I suspect that some of the magicians in the Post-processing Section could give you some really substantive advice on the "how" of doing a lot of things with this...like:
Getting more emphasis on the eyes to draw more attention to the axis of eyes-globe equal to the almost perpendicular axis of the two hands and the globe.
My main thought is that the basically excellent composition could be emphasized better to ratchet this up several notches.

Great idea and superb composition. The end result not designed to be "real world" so its a matter of personal taste if one likes the effect you have achieved.
If it was mine I would have worked it less leaving it more realistic and not quite so cartoonish and with a little more light on the face. Good thing about doing something creative and different is no one can say YOU are wrong cos its all about what you wish to depict.

I want it to look natural, but agree that your face needs to be opened up some. Might be able to get acceptable results by just using the shadow slider in camera raw,

Dave, Billy, Mama, thank you all for your comments. But, Mama....It's supposed to be a fortune teller gazing into his crystal ball. A fantasy from the word, go, How do you figure that shtick can look natural??

Maybe not natural as in the common sense of the word. Maybe I mean believeable. :-D

I would agree that the crystal ball doesn't look quite right. I would try some well-feathered darkening round the edge of the circle (to produce 100% of the adjustment at the edge of the circle and a graduation heading in towards the centre). And perhaps throw in a bit of de-saturation in that area too.

Mama, R.G., THANKS. Yes, I tried to round the globe more, but couldn't find a combination that really worked for me. Maybe my initial exposure was too hot. It was really more complicated to set up than I anticipated.
