Here is one from my step daughters wedding. I took this standing on a stool while she was getting ready. Now to edit the rest. I think I took this with a 85 1.8 @ f2.5 ISO 100
Critique always welcome. Thanks for looking Greg

Your right about her bust area being a distraction but I think I cropped out as much of it as I could and still have a nice portrait. I will post another one to show you what I'm talking about.

Beautiful job. Her skin looks wonderful without the over soft plastic look that I keep seeing everywhere. I also think the angle is very flattering

Funny that the cleavage would be a distraction to me, heck, I've never been a cleavage guy ..........
Thank you to everyone that looked and commented, I will post some more when they get done.

Greg, I meant no disrespect in my cleavage remark, I would of said the same thing about anything that I thought distracted from the fine image of her face ;)

None was taken. I knew when I posted the shot that the viewers attention would be drawn there but that crop was the right way to convey her beauty.

Beautiful face and make up.
Love the crop. Standing on a stool worked perfectly.
Were you the main photographer or just shooting
for fun?
They say 85mm is the perfect lens for full frame.
Were you using ff? about how far away were you?
any special lighting?
Sorry, I'm trying to learn and I have a long ways to go.

Yes I did use a full frame Canon 5dII I Had the Bride sit on the floor so the back ground would be her wedding dress give that blurred out white background. There are other shots with her looking up and showing more of the dress but this tight crop was what I used to be able to show off her eye lashes.
I think my distance from the camera to her eyes was about 3 feet the camera was set to iso 200 F/2.5 @ 1/200sec. I used a strobe to get this soft light and that is why the shutter was set at the max sink speed of 200
The light was a Paul Buff Einstein with a 82 in soft silver umbrella with a diffusion sock. I'm not sure of the power settings but at F/2.5 they would have been low maybe 30ws. I used the strobe because it was set up in the room while I was getting the shots of the bridesmaids and bride getting ready, but putting the Bride right in front of a window with the sheers pulled is the easiest way to get this shot. The 85mm 1.8 works great but if you really wanted to soften the brides skin you could open the aperture up to 1.8 and just isolate one feature. At this close of a distance from the subject and shooting F/2.5 you have to keep both eye in the same plane or one with go out of focus, I think the depth of field at this range and F stop is about 3/4 of an inch so you can see with this shallow of a focus the eyes can be in focus and the nose is out of focus. I hope this helps. Greg
P.S. I was the main shooter at my step daughters wedding. I wont do that again because I just missed out on being part of so much of the wedding even having a second shooter, I found myself handing my camera to one of the kids friends so I could dance with my wife and enjoy the evening.
