I upgraded Lightroom to the latest version and it created a new copy so I have the old copy and new copy. Mistakenly, I imported photos into the old version and created a new folder. When i open the new version the folder is not there. Am I doomed to work in the old version to process these photos or is there a way to get the new version to recognize the new folder?

If you put the folder in a folder on your disk, just import them into the new Lightroom....All importing really does is place pointers in the Lightroom catalog to where the files are. Use ADD to import, not copy.

Thanks, secondary question... can I delete the old version so not to make that mistake again or am I in danger of losing folders? I don't know why Adobe just doesn't replace old with new like everyone else.

If you delete the old version it does not delete any of the photos just the program, catalog, etc. when you import into Lightroom all you are doing is telling Lightroom where your images are. It will move them if you ask it too such as the case would be when importing from a memory card. Lightroom does not move them arbitrarily or put them in any special folders.
I just deleted LR5 when the new CC version was installed. No photos lost or moved.

Yes, once you are sure the new version is fine you can get rid of the old version and the old catalog files (remember the backup catalogs)
The folders and files on your disk rename outside of Lightroom.

Just uninstall the previous version of Lightroom. DO NOT DELETE ANY FOLDERS!

Open the new version, then open your catalog with the new version to convert the catalog files to the new version, then delete your old version, since it can't read the updated catalog files.
When in the new version, just open the Library module and select Import to Add (not copy) the files into the new catalog. This will leave them where they are and just show LR that the are there.
Using two versions of LR on one computer is a recipe for disaster. Good thing you asked the question now and not after you've done a lot of work in the new version.
