It looks like a duck, swims like a duck and hangs out with wood ducks and mallards, but I can't find an ID for him/her/it.
Now for the excuses. 6:20 a.m. and raining so I was shooting 340mm, 1/350 sec, f/6.7 and ISO 6400. :|
The wings are not that small. The elbows are tucked in.
Looks a lot like an American Black Duck, but if that was taken on the west coast it would more likely be a Mallard hybridIMallardxCampbell), almost gair-own-tee that is the case if you took that in some park or such.
Mallards are very open minded when it comes to embracing diversity...I expect one day to run into a MallardxChihuahua. ;)
Thanks, Didereaux. I thought of black duck but I think their bills are black.
Hybrid is my next choice. City owned park with a large duck/goose population, some of them year round, and people sometimes turn domestic ducks loose there.

Yeah the Black is an East Coaster.
I love your first shot, Larry! I don't have a clue what kind of duck he is! I also took a shot of a different looking duck a few days ago; I'll get around to posting it so you all can help me ID him.

Don't know about that. It's tit for tat. If you can't held me I don't know if I can help you. :XD: The first shot is her (I think) shaking off the water after swimming all the way across the lake instead of flying. That's adding more credibility to a hybrid or domestic.
Post away. :-)
