Glad you stopped back in, A wonderful collection of photos, it's almost like watching a documentary on Macro Photograph. You should be giving seminars on the art of Macro photography. Love the use of ambient light in many of these photos. Shame their all together as they all desire comments.
High praise Mr. Fisher. I need to go back and see what you have been up to the past few months. I have taught a few macro classes locally to the 4H club and a local camera club. Nothing fancy mind you more of the nuts an bolts variety.

I really enjoy ambient light macro. It's a tough gig but when on pulls it off very rewarding. Still carry my flash a diffuser wherever I go though. Like to think of it as a balanced macro tool bag.

I took it out last weekend but used a diffuser fashioned for the MP-E so I had to push flash output rather high. Wasn't overly impressed with my illumination but the lens is sharp. I really like the working distance, even on tubes, and the weight. Doesn't weigh much more than the 105mm. If I can get the illumination down I may sell the 105. Couple of quick questions, you run a hardbox off the side near the end of the lens correct? Also when you stack are you using the focus ring or moving ever so slightly towards/away from the subject?

none seemed to do justice to the shell so I broke the macro rule and took the dreaded overhead shot.
Absolutely outstanding series! We've missed you. Thanks for pointing out yet another "Macro Rule" that I was unaware of! LOL

yes off the side ,and sometimes on top right at the edge of the lens.for stacking i shoot the front and move the lens back.it does have great working distance.i would love to try a 200mm

I can on reiterate all that the others have said, beautiful shots all of them. I also am a bit absent at the moment as we have moved back to England and are in the slow process of buying a house and living in a small motorhome.

Really good to have you back William :D Your lighting is very nice indeed. I have still not got around to doing my "good intentions" list concerning trying out various lighting set ups. I'm lucky if I can get an hour of shooting in lately.

Much like you, sometimes life just gets in the way, insists on our attention and won't/can't be ignored. :|

NP - Thanks for the comments. The pundits tell me overhead shots are boring and a no-no. I think there are times the pundits are in error.
