I took this image of a combination lock I happened upon while walking alongside a school fence, and chose a angle that I thought would create an interesting perspective and composition.
Whoa! Nice perspective shot, rook! Your DOF is perfect. It gave me vertigo! That lock is tack sharp .. nicely done.
Well I would never have seen it never considered it. You did and made a very nice unusual shot thats technically perfect

Thank you for the nice compliment! I was extemely lucky to nail the DOF I wanted on the very first shot, especially considering the rather uncomfortable position I had to take to capture this perspective. However, I was able to use the fence to steady the camera nicely, minimizing camera shake and achieving a fairly sharp image.

"interesting perspective and composition" are the "...be all and end all" of this image's impact!
Especially interesting that with the down-and-left convergence of the leading lines the illusion (to my eye) that the subject is off to the right is truly illusory: it is smack-dab, perfectly in the center!
Amazing!
Impact:4
Tech:3
Composition 4.5
11.5/15
I am reminded of a photographer - whose name I can't recall- who mounted an exhibition of a body of work based on a door frame. It was a door frame that he carried on his extensive travels and used as an internal frame to "frame" some portion of every scene he photographed.
This image makes me wonder if this is "Combination Lock #I" of a
body-of-work-in-progress ???

Coming from you, "technically perfect" says a lot - you are certainly not one to hold back whenever you find flaws in a photo.

"interesting perspective and composition"... (
show quote)
Dave, thank you for taking time to give your insightful analysis and scoring! I really appreciate it.
Funny that you should suggest beginning a combination-lock-series:
A year ago while traveling through Bavaria, I came across a bridge, which fencing contained dozens of "love locks" - passerby attach locks to the fence, each inscribed with a name of a loved one. I took a large number of close-up shots of these locks; some were combination locks, some key locks, and in various shapes, sizes and colors. So, I actually already have an image series of locks. No, I've never posted any of the love lock images I took last year in Bavaria to UHH, but perhaps I should.
