Oh my! Another dark one ...........

We have a wedding do coming up in a few weeks at another Mission. As all the rest it's very dark inside. I decided to push the ISO on my 70D.

To get any realistic shutter speed I had to push the ISO to 3200, F/3.5 at 18mm. Best I could get was 1/30 on the shutter.

I was surprised at the how tame I could get 3200 but what I noticed was the details were missing.

Remember no flash in a Mission. So I think a Canon 6D is in my future. Really thought about that 50-150 F/2.8 Sigma but it's not going to any better on the noise issue on my Canon 70D. A 6D will be pretty decent at 3200 with the details still intact.

I left the data on the files so you can peek.

Yup, looks like 3200 passed the acceptable limits. We're you using a tripod or image stabilization?

Here is one taken at 400 ISO at 18mm and F/3.5 ....... best I could get was 1/5 on the shutter freehand.

Nicer snap but unrealistic during a wedding.

Even with the IS on, that is really pushing it.

Why I was asking about the tripod, is that when there is that much noise, it is hard to tell if there is camera shake, or if the noise is what is causing the loss of detail. Either way, since I've never been in a mission, and I can't speak from experience, it must be enough darker than the places I've shot that you may have changed my mind about needing a body with better low light performance. I'm never against getting something you NEED, it's when people want something, just because, and they have never run up against the limitations of what they already have that just drives me up a tree.

I'd love to actually go to see a wedding in a mission, maybe someday I'll make it out to CA. to check it out.

It is noise .......... when you get it into LR and pull in you can see the noise very easily at 3200.

I have 7 Missions all within a 2 hour drive of my home. Come on out, I have a guest room with your name on it.

 I would love to see California. The only part I've seen was the San Francisco airport on my way to, and back from Hawaii.
