Distance encoding for TTL Flash control.

Minolta was the first company to do so. ;)

I have an 85mm f/1.4 Rokinon, it is a fine lens. All manual though.

I need autofocus, with all the Sony algorithms. That means either Zeiss or Sony G, super sharp and vivid colors with 3d images.

Perfect! Use it every chance you get. I love hearing "camera-satisfaction".

Good question, I did alot of research before I bought my Minolta Maxxum 7xi but all I really remember is the "i" were 8bit and the "xi" were 16bit... remember this was 1990 give or take a year. I know the "xi" series had more features than the "i" but I don't remember what all they were.

Mickey, how do you like the A77? And what's up with that hat in your avatar?

I love the A77. It is by far the best camera I have ever owned. I started with Kodak Brownie in the early 1950's. Have also used Konica, Minolta, Kodak, and Canon. The hat is a hand made Panama by a friend in Bisbee, AZ. It is my favorite. Hats of all kinds are very popular in Arizona.

So many people I've asked about the A77 rave that it's been their favorite camera, ever. I'm getting one for the reach and its speed. Btw, I started with the Kodak Instamatic.
The Panama hat provides a fresh look... very stylish!

Bob,

The Sony RAW program that comes with the camera has a wonderful tool called D-Range Optimiser. It can brighten the shadows dramatically while leaving the highlights relatively untouched. I use it a lot for building interiors. Another very good reason to shoot RAW.

I am the proud owner and user of the Sony DSC-H1, A330 and the A7R. The only problem so far with the A7R is the need for an adapter for the Alpha Lenses and the Tamron 18-270.

For travel I use a RX10 with a backup RX100M2, my wife brings a RX100M1. I also shoot with a large selection of Nikon and Hassy equipment. Here's a RX10 shot I took a couple of weeks ago in Yellowstone.
