My model is my son. We went to a near by church and decided to take some photos. I'm still trying to understand lighting and B/W. Any CC are always welcome.

Well, I personally think this is a superb shot.
It's really wonderful . ..and soulful. . .his face says so much, and yet is so calm.

If you wanted to really nitpick and make this even better, then check out the highlights on the ear. They stand out more than the face, so you could subdue them a touch. Same thing goes for the whitest whites on the T-shirt, but honestly, this is a lovely shot, and I would be proud to make a large print of it if I were you.

That's really good   You could bring it into post and try a stop or two of exposure to lighten it up, but then maybe you loose the mood. It's quite wonderful the way it is tbh.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he would lose the mood. It really is great just this way.

Looking at other things, one could MAYBE argue that the background behind his profile seems a tad strong, but at the same time, that is part of what gives it presence and I'm not sure I would even touch it.

Just lovely! :)

Agreed. A global lighten would blow out the shirt, and loose the mood in the dark areas.

Print it 4x6 and see what it looks like. Prints are often way different than what is displayed on the monitor/device. Sometimes that gives me an idea of where I need to add a few brush strokes, which most times results in a better screen view.

Personally I love it the way it is and would be afraid that any 'tampering' in post would lose the wonderful mood of the shot.

I agree with Fullframe - print it out 4x6 or even 5x7 and see how it looks ... but were it mine I'd just enjoy a fantastic photo of my son.
