Love my 18-200 VR ll on my D7000 and 16mp sensor. Considering a D7200, which is 24mp. Anyone have any experience with this lens at 24mp?
Thanks in advance
Duane

I can't speak for that lens, but I went from a D5200, which is a 24mp sensor to a D7200 and the low light performance, the better autofocus and better continuous shooting have all improved my keeper ratio with a Sigma 18-300. Good luck, that lens should work great! Here's alink to a youtube video in which Tony Northrup tests the D7200 against other crop sensor cameras. Hope it helps.

I use the lens on my D800 which is 36mp and it's a great lens.

I think you know--the 18-200 will be great paired with a 7200. Buy it.

I assume you have to either crop out the severe vignetting, or use the DX mode on your 800?

Sorry, sloppy reading on my part. I thought we were discussing the 70-200 f/2.8 lens. I had the 18-200 with my D300 and I wasn't really happy with the image quality.

You will likely still love it on the D7200. I use it on the D7100 and am very pleased with it. Can't imagine it being any different on the newer D7200.

Once you shoot with it, you will never go back. I use it on my D7100.
Be very careful...the lens will require careful handling. Racked out it is not very stable.

Thanks, I have been using mine for over a year and love it.
Just wonder how it will perform at higher resolution (24mp vs 16mp).
When the D800 series came out, there was a lot of chatter here about the "lenses" not keeping up with 36mp.
Did not want to need new lenses with the new camera.
Thanks for your input

I upgraded my D7000 which I used with Nikon 18-200 to a D7200 and it is a vast improvement, especially in low light situations. I also find that I'm getting fewer out of focus shots with the D7200 and longer battery life. I'd strongly recommend upgrading to the D7200 which would work very well with the 18-200 lens you have. I keep a 12-28 Tokina on my old D7000 and I carry both cameras when I anticipate the need for an ultra wide angle.

Consider the marginally sharper aspect of using ANY lens on the D7200 vs the D7000.

The D7000 still has OLPF (or AA filtering), while both the D7100 and D7200 no longer have the smearing of sharpness that AA filtering is (and has) been a problem on sharpness for years.

So, you not only have the extra megapixels, but you also have sharper images than the previous filtered process in camera.

And this will be true of any nikon, or other lens, you hang on the front of the D7200.

Many Hawgs do not feel this is a big advantage. Me, I takes my advantages where they come. And, I have been using camera's that dropped AA filtering 4 years before Nikon went that route with the D800e and the D7100.

It is clearly an improvement in digital camera technology, and I have not (for four years) and will not buy any camera, or keep any camera with OLPF (AA) filtering.

Do your homework on the camera's, as well as the lenses.

I came to a D7200 via a D300s (16 mp) and a 7100 that I still have and all lenses showed slight improvement in auto focus speed and as someone mentioned the dropping of AA gives me exceptional Jpegs out of camera. You have the upgraded version of the 18-200 it will show improvement on a 24mp its a good enough lens for that. Its more risk putting it on an FX 810. If it did there is more chance it would be back focus etc that is easy adjusted in camera. Other thing I love with the D7100 & 7200 is dual card slots I run one on Jpeg and RAW or if its really
critical stuff RAW & Backup RAW. Thats why Im not going to a D7500. The D7000 is such close family you have nothing to worry about you will gain in many ways there will be no down sides these bodies are well in the excellent range remember the D7200 was top DX before the D500 came along. Pro photographers were using them for wildlife like Tony Northrop, Thom Hogan, Steve Perry and a good list of others. Its a no brainer what are you waiting for..the bonus is they are cheaper than they ever were.
