If those shots are straight out of the camera, they are great (wish you had clicked "[] (store original)" so we could see a larger file). I'm very tempted to buy the SX50 but I've had bad experiences with electronic viewfinders. Anyone care to comment on the one in the SX50?
This is a great camera, even at full price. For the price they are asking for a refurb, it's a steal! I have had no issues with the viewfinder. And that lens! I know this is no 5DIII, but just imagine what it would cost to get a 5DIII equipped with an 1200mm lens?
The only complaint I had, and I ranted at length on here about it, is the manual. This is the worst piece of technical writing I have ever seen, by far. Almost every section refers you to another page, which then refers you...
This was my first real digital camera, and to my mind, the instructions should be *better* than for the pricier equipment. I had no idea just what you could do - my last proper camera was an A1! If you don't know what the Canon name is for a feature, you cannot find it, and as a newcomer, how would you know that it exists at all? I was trying to shoot Christmas lights, and no matter what I set the camera to, it was exposing for about 4 seconds. Turns out there is some mode which 'for safety' will override your inputs. I didn't know this existed, and therefore couldn't find it to turn it off. I still don't remember what it was called.
The manual for my 7D is great - you can 'read' it... As an ex-programmer, I am one of the few who sit and read instruction manuals, but I defy anyone to sit and read the SX50 manual!
Anyway, mini-rant over. To someone coming from a DSLR, it should be much easier to get to grips with. Having said that, mine is currently with a friend who's camera died a week before an planned trip to Alaska. He has shot DSLRs for years, although not Canon, and he is finding it difficult to figure things out.
If you can get past the manual, you will be happy with the camera!
