I have been using my D610 and have been neglecting my D3200. I spent some time with it this afternoon, but I keep missing the shutter button because it feels like it is in a different place than on my other camera.

Lester Dines 105-mm macro lenses have excellent resolution. There are a few other photographers on this forum who also use this lens. Expect a few questions about serial number, etc.

Unusual subject and nice OoF background. Share with us, your technique.

I used a Tilex bottle for the OoF background. The dark blue in the bottom right hand corner is the top of the T on the Tilex bottle. I used the Dines ringflash, one PK-13 ring on my 105 Dines at f/11, ISO 100, and I think the shutter was 1/200 or 1/250. I only shot it in fine JPG and it looks a little grainy after processing. Lightroom is still a weak spot for me, I am using ViewNX2 now and have finally figured out how to shoot in raw and convert to a JPG but I forgot to change the setting on my D3200 to raw. My D610 shoots JPG fine and raw on the other card now. I am getting there, so exciting after a rough start in this digital world!

To keep the grainy look down, always Denoise before processing.. Even if you use ISO100 you need to run it thru noise removal software. And if you can, when processing your photos, only apply to the subject and not the background. Any added texture, sharpness or tonal contrast, to the background, will bring the noise forward.

Thank you, I will google Denoise, I have never heard of it before. I don't know how to apply adjustments to the subject only, can that be done in the ViewNX2 software? That is the only one that I have that will process raw files.

Noise reduction software. Your NX2 should have it. As for making adjustments only to your subject, I believe this software adjusts the the whole photo. Sorry can't help with that.

Capture NX-D does have it. I could not find any NR on View-NX2 though.
FastStone image viewer has it too. This is a free program that I started with and Douglass still uses. I never did try the NR on FS when I was using it.

I have been reading about the GIMP software that is free. I may try that soon, it has the noise reduction package in it. Thank you!
