I cleared away the spittle from a Spittle Bug nymph (Clastoptera juniperina), and had some fun. You can see he is just starting to spittle again. There was also a small caterpillar on the same plant. This is how I amuse myself.

Kim! It's so good to see you around again :D I have attempted to dig out these little critter a few times with no luck, only sticky fingers (spittle is nasty stuff). At least now I know what they look like.

Not your fault. You did not name the critter! I always thought the foaming was from the mouth, but your photos indicate "spittle" originates a bit farther south. I am both surprised, and now a bit enlightened.
