I recently got this lens from an offer I could not refuse, but need some info about it. It is sharp and clean, and hope it will be a useful addition to my lens stable, but I find myself a bit confused as to how the macro feature works (I know, it's a stupid situation).

I've tried every internet site I can think of to get some sort of instruction manual or user's pamphlet, without success.

If anyone knows about this lens, I would appreciate learning from them. I know vivitar made many lenses under many names, and the earlier ones were pretty good; but now, they are more a distributor and merchandiser than a manufacturer.

So, my deepest thanks to any UHH'er who knows the skinny on this glass.

It's not really a macro, it's just a close focusing feature. I believe it will give you 1:4 images max.

just your normal close focusing $30 zoom lens, goes down to 1:1.4 or 1:1.6.
Not a true macro but will get you some nice closeups.

The lens may need to be at 35mm or (less common, but preferable) 70mm in order to go into the so-called "macro" mode.
Vivitar has always been a marketer, not a manufacturer.

I have both the lens in question & the fixed aperture F3.5 version of this Vivitar lens. Both were made by Komine for Vivitar (serial # starts with 28). There is no "button" to push or anything else. They just focus closer than what would be a normal focus distance. They are not flat field lenses either like a true macro lens would be. Neither of mine get used though as I have the Nikkor MF 35-70 F3.5 & the AF 35-70 F2.8 Nikkor that I use... Not a bad lens, but not in the same league as the Nikkors.
