I bought a 5740 HP printer 2 months ago. The concept sounded good. $4 a month for 50 pages. I had been paying about $14 a month for HP ink. I thought, why not cut the ink cost 70%. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 for editing. Most often I print black and white Word documents, and perhaps 4 images per month @ 11x8.5 color prints. Other color pics are ordered from commercial printers. I tried many settings on the printer and they did not help one iota. The color was pitiful. Adobe PSE 13 default color setting was always optimize for computer screen. Once I set that to always optimize for printing, the quality improved drastically! Glad to say I am enjoying the savings now!
After months of thinking it was the fault of the printer, this is the site that had the answer.
