headed for Mykonos and Santorini islands off Greece; after reading reviews of various 10-24, and 11-16 etc. lenses am
not sure any of them are good. any consensus on what would be the best option ? I have an 18-300 DX I use on my Nikon D7100

I use a Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 on my D7100 for very good results. There are faster WA lenses out there but this is fast enough for my needs. If I need to get the shutter speed up, I just up the ISO

I do not know your level of photographic expertise but for many photographers using Nikon 18mm focal length is all the wide angle they will ever need.
I use Nikon and I have found that the 12-24 f4 AF-S is the lens that has all the wide angles I will ever use with my DX bodies.
If you are not familiar with wide angles make sure you understand how to use them. Wide is not necessarily good.
The great Robert Capa used to say that "If your pictures are not good enough you are not close enough."

I have the AF-S Nikkor 10-24 f/3.5-4.5 G ED, which I am very happy with. I too, have a D7100.

I bought a Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 for my D7100 and love it. Your 18-300 is a good all-in-one lens, but for wider, the 11-16 is fairly compact, wider, better in low light and half the price of the Nikon 10-24.

Sometimes it's not enough to merely quote a celebrity. Capa was best known for up close and personal in-yer-face shooting, not so much for wide angle landscapes.

I bought the Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 based on Thom Hogan's review. That said, it isn't a lens that I use much, but it does fill a niche in my DX bag...

more worried about the barrel / pincushion / soft corners that is referred to on all the wide angle lenses; my aim is nothing more than a great picture; won't enlarge to more than 16x20, if that, in most instances.

Most of the barrel & pincushion is correctable in post & soft corners on most lenses sharpen up by F8

I quoted Capa because many young photographers believe that capturing a large span of the landscape will make for a fantastic shot. Wide angles require the photographer to come closer to the subject for a more striking photograph and I do not need to tell you what perspective does when changing positions and how it requires control for impact.
Wide angles expand perspective and to use them effectively the photographer needs to get closer to his subject.

That makes sense.
I usually think wide angle when I can't get farther away. :-D

For landscape I usually found that 24mm was a good view.
