Your Nikon D810 may be an expensive DSLR, but it is a cheap video camera. The capability of DSLR cameras to do quality video has pretty much killed the market for professional video cameras, at least in the under $10,000 price range. Opportunities for professional video shooters have also been sharply reduced.

Image quality is good, but there are many other trade-offs in control and features with a DSLR. Those who have never used a professional video camera would be unaware of the differences.

When I began working in commercial video in the 1980's, the price of entry for a high-end quality professional camera and lens with on-board recording (Betacam or BetacamSP) was $30,000-40,000 - and up - in 1980's dollars. Thirty years later, the number is the same - $30-40K in 2015 dollars.

The difference is that now there are choices in the mid-range ($5-15K) and low-end (DSLR) that give acceptable results. The daily rate for a shooter with gear back in the day was $1,000-1,500 (1980's $$). Day rate for shooter with gear in 2015 is about the same, or very possibly less - in 2015 $$.

Actual dollars are the same, with no regard for inflation. $1,500 bought a lot more in 1985 than it does now.

The faster you wear it out the sooner you can get another new camera.

The dslr is fine for a relatively still subject. Tripod mounted panning is difficult. But to use it for a combination of panning and zooming.. no.

Video with action calls for a video camera and a lot of practice..There are some compact models for a few hundred bucks that get er done... They zoom with the push of a toggle.
Either way, a memory card with a high transfer rate is a must.
