I have only one question.

I'm thinking of getting Topaz. Is this a standalone or does it have to work in conduction with Photoshop?

Topaz is a series of (currently) separate modules. I have set up one, B&w Effects 2, in LR 5.7. I believe some of the modules, including B&W Effects, can operate as a stand alone. You should read the detailed instructions that pertain to whichever modules you are interested in. I do not have personal knowledge of how the modules function in LR 6.

You would do better to re-title your post if it's not too late.
Use Topaz in the title.
Otherwise you'll blend in with these.

From the forum rules:
Try to use descriptive titles when creating new topics. Instead of something like "Please Help", write a title that briefly states the nature of your post. That way, people who know the answer or are interested in that particular topic would be more likely to click on it to read it and post replies.

Your Scotland photos make me want to go back....and soon!

It works in conjunction with Lightroom as well. There are many modules which Topaz sells individually or as a massive group (pretty expensive). I'd recommend trying it out on a free trial to see how you like it before investing.

Thanks for responding, minniev. The reason i asked the question is that i don't have either LR or Photoshop. I will try the 30 day free trial to see how i like it.

What is your base photo developing program? You want to be sure Topaz will work with it.

Topaz will work with iPhoto (or at least it used to before iPhoto became Photos), but you have to use a little interface thingy called Fusion Express (free from Topaz) to make it happen. You might want to ask the Topaz tech support about the new Photos app if you've switched already. They are pretty good at email tech support but sometimes it takes a couple of days to get back to you.

https://www.topazlabs.com/photofxlab

It's available as a stanalone. You can call it out as an external processor in LR, or you can use each of the modules individually as plugins with the plugin manager.

Rich, the Topaz modules work fine on their own. An additional editor is not necessary.

Either way. There is a free download to use it alone. Otherwise it interfaces seamlessly with Photoshop (as a filter) and Lightroom (as "Edit in").
