Backyard Birds and Flowers

These were taken over the last two days using my new Sony A58, and a 55-200mm F4-5.6 Sony lens. I am using the auto functions of the camera to learn about the camera. The bird pictures I took using the scene selection - sports mode to obtain a faster shutter speed The flower was taken using the auto superior mode. I want to try the Tele- zoom for birds as it will take multiple frames per second
while continuing to adjust exposure and AF. Do you think that might be the best mode for taking bird pictures , since they tend to move suddenly ? I think trying to use manual focus and exposure is just too slow for pictures of birds at a backyard feeder, at least for me.
I am shooting handheld sitting in a chair. The feeder is not far from me perhaps about 20 feet .
