A week ago I posted a note saying I had been bitten by the GAS bug and because the SX50 HS refurb cameras were going for so low a price I ordered one. It was ordered From Canon Direct on Monday afternoon. I received a shipping notice on Tuesday and it arrived at noon on Wednesday.
Thanks to Linda from Maine for some help in sorting out some of the ridiculous frills I was able to get it set up rather nicely. I have a T3i and nearly always use that in the aperture preferred mode. Linda pointed out that with the tiny sensor of the SX50 it is almost impossible to control depth of field except when zoomed way out. Thanks Linda for the help.
Anyway, I settled on P mode for this carry around camera and went out to try it out. Images are here. If you download the exif data is there. I thought the camera chose some very sensible parameters.
I particularly like the first image here. I think the IQ is right up there.
Second is a closeup of an Iris. Third is a shot of a neighbor's house. Obviously the owner likes flowers. Last is a real test of low light and mixed lighting, shot in church yesterday. Is it noisy? Certainly. Compared to images from a crop sensor camera in similar lighting a few years ago, I think it is quite acceptable. Comments please.
All were shot in RAW mode and processed.
These are not necessarily great compositions, but I think they show the capabilities of the camera.
Oops, forgot to check store original on the neighbor's house image.

Those are great. Nothing like a new toy. I'm pretty sure that first one is a 'Kouza" dogwood. They are later blooming and not prone to the diseases that are wiping out the native dogwoods on the eastern seaboard.
Thanks for looking. I just went searching and you are correct, it is a Kouza Dogwood. I believe the local folks call them "Star Dogwood".
