Well I went out to experiment with the Raynox 250 on the 100mm, not sure of the magnification but I only had about an inch to an inch & quarter working space in front of the lens at the minimum focus point (I know I could've wound it back a touch, but whats the point of having it if not going to maximise a bit). Anyway the only really useable I managed with it on were of the male St Marks fly.
I think I will just stick to the tubes for the time being.

dont think i have seen one of these before, good job
Thanks for the comments, yep quite a hairy fella, these are not quite as common as the females and normally quite flighty but he was a biggy as such, when I first seen him come in thought I was about to get my first robber fly.
I was wishing I had my tubes on for him rather than the raynox, not good trying something new out when you really want to get the shot.

I'm always wanting to try some of the various set ups I have but, I'm always afraid of missing "that" shot because it's new to me :| If we had plentiful insects like some do, it wouldn't be such a risk.
