Not the most spectacular but still quite a few.
I know my Meade 8" needs a good cleaning and collimation.
That's my next project when it's raining the next 2 days.
1. Nikon D800E regular and Auto WB.
f/10, ISO 100, 1/10 sec
2. Nikon D800E regular and Auto WB.

3. Canon T2i with H-Alpha conversion filter Auto WB.
f/10, ISO 200, 1/10 sec.

Looked it up 656 nm is the Hydrogen alpha line ... so if I use my IR (hot mirror removed) Canon G2 and a 650 nm filter that will work well using the settings you suggested. I have a small 37mm lens cap for my pocket camera purchased for solar photography. I like your photos .... That Meade 8" may be a bit better than using a hand held without it... think so? ;) Yep!

Cool shots! Video from a set up like this would be fun to watch, as it all moves around.

Thank you D Pullum. Mine would have turned out much better if I had used a high quality Solar Film like Baader.
This inexpensive film just will not come into focus. If you are going to handhold your camera shoot above 1/100 sec.
Good luck.

Hello Chazz. Thank you very much and you know who would be good at a move is Albuqshutterbug.
He's become quite good at it. I know he's done some good ones of the Moon.

Hey Craig, I hope he reads this and gives it a shot. Lots of govt. and scientific groups, with hundreds of thousands of dollars in eqpt., have done it. A clip from someone without all that stuff, but some creative imagination would be very cool indeed.

I sent a PM to Jim, let's see I he wants to do it or has done it.

I think a lot of people would enjoy the result if he does it. It prolly takes a lot of time to get something worthwhile

I plan to give this a try but I don't know that I have the equipment to really "see" any live change. The sun moves slowly even though it is always changing.
Stay tuned....

Nice shots Craig! I've never tried the sun but I'd like to some day. I'll have to educate myself on the filter use/requirements...on second thought, if I try to image the sun, I might cause the cloud cover up here to become permanent, night AND day!

Thank you John. And you almost have permanent clouds anyway.
I spent 6 years in Oregon going to school and thought I was going to actually become a Beaver for real.

The best thing I found about Oregon was all the deep primitive woods with the canopy up top and the ferns on the floor of the woods. Its just one of the most beautiful places on the planet IMO. I hope that when Cali falls into the ocean, it leaves Oregon alone. The Full moon last night waas the clos point of its orbit for this whole year. I was going to get outside and try again to get shots of it (good ones this time)but after a week of almost zero rain, we got wet and clouds. Maybe it'll be a little better tonight...
