Ok I have calmed down from a uncalled for argument name calling on another thread...Is it me but any research I do on a specific Camera. I guess my GAS collection is starting to be bridge cameras. leads to total confusion. T am very happy with what equipment I have and have returned for refund that I did not like.
HX400...SX50....G15 not much but I want to add a Fuji S1 due to the speed of the shutter and being water resistant. I get such mixed reviews about lo light IQ that I wonder if it would be the correct choice. I am not the most experienced photographer but a very happy one.
The S1 because I got caught in a small summer rain and for being 70 actually made a good mile running to shelter

C'mon, what's a little rain (as long as there's no soap in it  ). My neighbor has an S1, and has printed out some excellent 8 x 10s. She won't go out of the house if there's a cloud in the sky, so I can't comment on it's low-light performance. One of the pictures did have some deep shadows, though, and looked good to me.

From what I recall the term small summer rain in Florida could be what others call a significant understatement,... the skies can empty, a downpour..., and good for you for being fit!

That said, if you are not actually shooting in the rain, do you need a weather resistant camera? A plastic bag can be quite effective.

There are also inexpensive plastic covers that will protect cameras from the elements while not interfering with the lens and so forth while in active use...

I hope you find what you need, there are a lot of solutions to a lot of problems available...

Take care and good luck. :)

Seagull - Nikon, Canon and Panasonic all have waterproof compact digital cameras at quite reasonable prices, esp. if you are willing to purchase a previously-owned camera. See also used/rehabbed waterproof cameras listed by KEH. A very handy addition to anyone's camera bag.

Thank you all everyone....yes a small summer rain can be like bathing in a waterfall. I will definitely check out the outlets. Your ideas/knowledge is much appreciated.

Looking at Nikon refurbished also at Canon being my last choice all that I see are water cameras actually won`t do me any good. Keh was interesting B and H had a FZ1000 for 199 if I needed another I would grab it and find myself keep wandering back to the S1....well something to sleep on ...Beautiful sunset tonight...the calm after the storm...
Besides if I have any doubts I won't buy it. Gentlemen have a great evening. Tomorrows going to be a fine day

Are you able to share a little more about your decision criteria?

What are you looking for that addresses your specific needs?

What doesn't work for you, for what reason?

Those things would help!

Sleep well, and good luck!

None of us are made of sugar; we won't melt.

If there's a possibility of rain, I keep a plastic bag stuffed in my pocket while out with my camera. Then if I'm caught in the rain, I place my camera in it and close the bag's opening with a quick knot. The camera stays dry.

well good morning...Its a beautiful 73 degrees and will go up to up to 88 before I know it....Some more fresh thought and looking at quite a few camera stores and outlets takes me down the trail of the S1 again. At least its not a champagne camera on my beer budget. Criteria...I need a zoom , least 2.8 on the bottom , reach would depend on the camera....a few filters for effects a very good is system.....water and dust resistant not water proof...all I see are $300 instamatics with that feature and pardon my language built it needs to be built like a brick shit house ...I want to feel the weight and not be afraid I am going to break this toy camera just looking at it. That's it if the S1 can give a good image and I cannot find something that has most of what I want and some I require.
The bag idea is great and I will explore it shortly. If the camera comes and the iq is horrible it will go back. Amazon is great about returns...You all enjoy the day hopefully the sun is out...the clouds are big and white on a blue sky and you have your dog or wife at your side. If you have neighter then alone time can be wonderful....Thanks

I also carry a freezer bag if there is a possibility of rain. Just put the camera in it as needed.

That's the trouble with you kids--can't decide  I'm 83 !
I am a firm believer in OLY cameras. especially the SP820 UZ. I have heard good things bout the S-1. Why carry all the lens and other "stuff" when you can get the same thing (and more) all in one camera?
