Good evening all,

I have attached two different versions of the same pic. I have been working on my black and white processing techniques, and found this image to be particularly challenging due to the contrast and the dark foreground. General critiques welcome, but also interested if the color or the black and white version works best for you.

Thanks,

Trent

Looks like there's more shadow detail in the second one...like it better...

Sorry, misfired on the upload. Should be corrected now.

That's a tough one...they are both excellent. I like the interest that the added color adds to #2 but normally I lean toward B&W. I really am torn --- love them both! :-)

Okay, now I can get them! ;) I like them both, they each would fill a niche. Only suggestion is that if you are using LR I would move the luminance noise slider to about 30, this makes a significant difference with no degradation to your shot. This is really a quite good street shot.

I think #2 is a bit more dramatic. The play between the light on the building and the darkness of the clouds adds some drama and tension to the photo. #2 gets my vote.

I really like the second one with the color. For this image the B&W does nothing for me. There is more detail in the shadows and in the highlights. Very nice image.

I personally like the color version better - I will almost always like color over black and white - that's just me.

Your b/w version seems both too dark and too contrasty to me, to the extent that some shadow detail is lost.

The composition and subject matter is excellent.

Thanks for sharing.
